Do not forget you. Unless you have a direct supply of outdoor air in the chimney, sending a lot of right to the house through the chimney and suction of cold air into the house of a small air cracks around windows and doors.

Go chimneys must be carefully designed to be a really positive net addition to your home to heat. It needs a supply of combustion air to the outside closed doors, glass front and a heat exchanger with a fan built into the sound, to be effective.

Only if you have registered in the open air or into the basement back to the fan is no advantage.

Probably would help heat the rest of the house with the fireplace and the fans constantly, in the basement is a bit cooler.
If the fireplace in the basement would have a more even temperature do.
Most gas fireplaces are not as efficient, usually around 60%.
I think the heat pump would be more efficient than the chimney, unless it is on the electrical elements too much, because every problem with the heat pump.
Have you recently they had been assured?
